Phagocytosis plays an important role in the immune system in removing pathogens and renewing cells to resolve inflammatory flare-ups, prevent chronic inflammatory or autoimmune diseases, and remove apoptotic tumor cells after treatment with anticancer drugs. Live cell imaging technology changes the traditional manual processing method of analyzing phagocytosis, providing a real-time visualization and quantitative assessment technology. Phagocytosis live cell imaging allows for easy quantification of phagocytosis kinetics, screening and characterization of compounds that modulate phagocytosis, thereby enhancing our understanding of immune function and disease processes.

Real-time quantification of microbial killing
Able to effectively quantify the rate and level of phagocytosis of pathogens such as Gram-negative or Gram-positive bacteria, visualizing and deeply analyzing in real time which microorganisms are killed by phagocytosis.
Track phagocytosis using fluorescent reagents
By using fluorescent reagents, such as pH-sensitive red fluorescent reagents, we can quantify phagocytosis rates based on the amount of fluorescent signaling in an interference-free and real-time manner, which provides insights into receptor-ligand interactions as well as the effects of pathway modulators on phagocytic mechanisms.
Real-time visualization and quantification of phagocytosis kinetics
We can track and measure the progression of phagocytosis at multiple time points, generating images plotted as a function of time and quantifying the process of phagocytosis kinetics.
Assessing drug dose-dependent phagocytosis inhibition
Treat cells with different drug concentrations to assess the dose-response relationship between drug concentration and degree of phagocytic inhibition. This helped to determine the dose-dependent inhibition of phagocytosis by the drug and calculate IC50 (half inhibitory concentration) values.
Quantitative analysis of antibody-mediated cell phagocytosis
- Enable quantitative measurement of phagocytosis of diseased, dead or dying cells using phagocytes and target cells of the customer's choice.
- Study antibody-mediated phagocytosis or cellular phagocytosis, such as phagocytosis of apoptotic cells or anti-CD47 antibody-mediated phagocytosis.

Seed macrophages or other phagocytes into 96- or 384-well plates.
Step 1Treat effector cells with compounds prior to phagocytosis.
Step 2Add fluorescent probe-labeled target cells to the treated wells.
